INSTRUCTIONS FOR HISTORY THESIS During the spring, history is to write a fictional narrative that takes place at some real historical event, time, and place. Therefore, there must be facts behind your story. At work, you can decide for yourself which era your dissertation deals with. Thus, the milieu of your story does not have to be limited to topics covered only in the history of high school, but events can take place in ancient Egypt, for example. The work must be done in the form of a dissertation, in which case the work must include: 1. TITLE PAGE with name, category and return date 2. TABLE OF CONTENTS, with the INTRODUCTION first, the TITLE HEADINGS of the story, and finally the FINAL SENTENCE. SOURCES and possible APPENDICES should also be mentioned in the table of contents as a title. 3. THE INTRODUCTION must state where, where the story is located and from whose point of view the story is told. For example, if there is someone in the story, they need to be introduced. 4. STORY is the main point of the work. The format in which it is done is freely selectable. For example, an invented person adventures in a history event, a play script, diary entries about a time, etc. Note, however, that your work is a story, so it should have events and a progressive plot. So avoid a story where people tell the facts themselves. One of the criteria for evaluating the work is how well the facts have been incorporated smoothly into the story. NOTE! The subtitle of the story should appear in the table of contents 5. In the work, the sentences in which SOURCES ARE USED are marked in the text with italics, ie with text that slightly leans to the left. In other words, whenever you have used some source in a sentence for historical information, the text is in italics. In this way, it is possible to distinguish simply sentences based on historical sources from the outputs of ones own imagination. 5. FINAL SENTENCE is its own chapter with an evaluation of the work and how it is done. Helpful Questions for Considering the Final Sentence: What Do You Learn While Working? What was difficult? How did you think you succeeded in your work? Please note that the final sentence should not be the so-called mandatory evil, but it is part of the evaluation. Because of this, it is important that you do that section carefully. 6. SOURCES must be marked in such a way that they can be found (exact address of the website, author and title of the book, name of the year and number in the journals, name of the interviewee and time of the interview). Please note that personal information is not a source. Instead, for example, you can interview your own relatives or other people if they have personally experienced events related to your topic (e.g., if your topic relates to life in the 80s). Sources are not included in the total length of the work. 7. At the end of the work, even after the sources, there are APPENDICES. This section can be used to mark possible images, maps, etc. If you attach an image, enter APPENDIX 1, APPENDIX 2 below the im
age, depending on the serial number of the image. If you want to refer to an image in your text, you can write in parentheses (Appendix 1). For example, Kekkonen (Appendix 1) was the President of Finland in the 1970s. Mauno Koivisto (Appendix 2) was his successor in the 1980s. The sources of the images are also marked in the sources. Attachments are not included in the total length of the work. EVALUATION OF THE HISTORY THESIS In order to achieve a commendable grade, you must succeed in the following areas: A) The main object of evaluation is the inclusion of the quantity and quality of the historical fact in the story. Remember that I evaluate the work as part of a history subject. B) The ability to apply a historical fact, i.e. to integrate facts fluently into a story. A commendable grade cannot be reached from a historical point of view either, because in the story a person tells historical facts without a storytelling background. C) Accuracy of the information. Even if you have the freedom to tell the story you want, dont distort history. For example, dont claim that the Titanic sank in the torpedo of a German submarine. D) Writing facts in your own words. The sources are checked, so write the text in your own words. As usual, copying text, and deleting a few filler words from the original text is lazy. So format the text in your own words and make it your own. E) Abundance of sources. Note! Information should NOT be from a single source! F) In a good work, the above-mentioned features are also assessed in the final sentence of the work itself. The final sentence is also an important part of the performance, so a varied look at your own performance is important. G) The work is clear. This means the layout of the work is neat, the text and events are easy to follow. Progress is logical. H) The dissertation must be in good condition, ie the following points have been implemented correctly: 1) Table of Contents. Adheres to the content of the work. 2) Introduction. To a historical story through brief factual information. 3) The final sentence. Containing the works own evaluation. 4) List of sources. Properly drafted and multi-source. 5) Sentences using historical sources are in italics. 1. Illustration is always a Plus, though not necessary. Please remember to mark the pictures in the appendix according to the instructions and example. J. The work has been returned on time. Late return will negatively affect your grade. K. The technical data has been complied with: o A suitable minimum length of the story is approx. 1.5 pages, maximum length 4 pages. o Font size 11; headers font size up to 20. o Font options: Arial, Times New Roman, Cambria or Calibri. o Line spacing 1.5 o Job margins are not changed from the original settings. The qork has to be done in Docs form
