Weve also learned how the spread of infectious diseases can dramatically affect our health. One thing weve hinted at here and there is how government or institutional policies can be used to improve our health and our lives. Some of these policies can be controversial; some policies are pretty straightforward. Your assignment for this paper is to choose a health policy from the list below, or another approved topic of your choosing, and present an opinion paper based in solid scientific evidence. Policies you may choose from include (but are not limited to):
Childhood obesity prevention programs in schools
Limiting or banning sale of super-sized sodas in restaurants
Limiting or banning sale of sugary sodas and snacks in schools
Fluoridation of municipal drinking water
No smoking allowed in any public spaces or buildings
Legalizing medicinal marijuana

How did this policy get enacted? Why did policy-makers think this was necessary? (If it isnt enacted yet, why is it thought to be needed and what is preventing it from being enforced?)
What scientific evidence supports your position?
What scientific evidence refutes your position?
Should this policy be continued, modified, or discontinued? How and why?
Your paper must be two to three pages in length, and be typed in Times New Roman 12- point font with 1-inch margins and be double-spaced. Cite your sources within the text of the paper using APA formatting. Formatting matters, so when you submit your paper to Turnitin, be sure to use a .doc, .docx, or .pdf file type for best results. Remember, you should submit your papers to Turnitin in such a way that no identifying information about you or the class is included. To receive full credit for your work, you should have a similarity (OSI) score less than or equal to 15%.
