The thing that sticks out to me in this image is that this appears to be a service dog. There is an ethical relationship between a client and a service dog. Service dogs are put through extensive training. Before a service dog can be released from training they must prove to be emotionally sound and mature. Their health is screened to make sure they are physically healthy and physically strong enough to take what a client might need them to do. Some service dogs have to bear the weight of the client in part of their service. The ethical issue that comes into play for the client is that all service dogs have the right to live a quality life. The relationship that evolves between a service dog and the client or owner is one of trust and love. You can see this in the image. The dog has run up to the swimmer and is leaning their head down to the swimmer. I think this is a good indication of caring because the dog is standing with the swimmer away from everyone else, and has its full attention on the swimmer. The swimmer has their hand on the dog’s side and is holding him close. The swimmer is about to or has kissed the dog on the head demonstrating that they care for the dog. I think both of these actions by the swimmer show that they care for the dog, and that they have a close and caring relationship with each other. These acts can relate to their character traits and also their moral character. Character traits are a readiness to act in a certain way or manner, where moral character is indicative of the type of person who habitually acts in a certain manner that will be praised due to upholding higher standards (Purtilo 79). Both the dog and the swimmer are showing character traits as well as moral character by the way they act toward each other non-verbally. The dog is with the swimmer and giving their attention to the swimmer while in a crowded room with a lot of visual and auditory stimulus. The swimmer is holding and petting the dog while leaning up to kiss the dog’s forehead. They are both showing their character traits in how they are acting as well as their moral characters by acting in a way of higher standards in regard to the caring bond they seem to have
