In your essay, please respond to the following prompt:
What are two (2) key challenges to development in your chosen country, and what is one possible solution or a set of possible solutions to these challenges Why is your proposed solution the best course of action
To answer this question effectively, you must engage with the literature in class and apply empirical findings and/or theories of development we have discussed in class. If you do not engage with the literature to a sufficient degree, you will be penalized.
The policy solution you propose should, as much as possible, address both challenges you have discussed in the paper. If this is not possible, then feel free to propose distinct solutions to each of the challenges (however, often challenges are interrelated, so finding these linkages and proposing a solution to address the core issues behind both can be quite compelling). This may not always be easy, but this is your chance to really apply what you have learned and be creative/innovative.
While each essay is different, I expect you to expla
in (not just list or name) 2 challenges to economic development that we have covered in the module and how these challenges play out in your case country. You need to illustrate that you understand what has been covered in class and show that you can apply it to a real-world case. One challenge is not sufficient to illustrate your understanding of the literature and you do not have space to adequately develop three or more challenges. Please do not simply add an additional challenge to fill space.
To address why your solution is the best, you may have to briefly discuss other options and why they fail to sufficiently promote development.
Your essay should provide a brief background on the country, but please only provide the details that are relevant for understanding your argument. It is up to you to determine what background information is needed in order to facilitate understanding.
You are not expected to do any original data analysis for this essay, but you are welcome to do so if you desire. You can also use existing reports or statistics to support your argument.
