Please write about the history and current state of affairs of racism in football (soccer). Specifically, please
touch on the racial/ethnic abuse from fans and the responsibilities of FIFA/UEFA in policing said abuse. This is
if course a question that other sports and leagues have dealt withsome better than othersthough probably
not as much as football. Is there a particular episode of this you can think of? Has FIFA ever put out any kind of
statement about this?
Other potential topics / questions you can write about:
-Players from formally colonized countries playing for their colonizers national football team (e.g. African
players playing France and Belgium national teams)
-Mohamed Salah causing a decrease in hate crimes in Liverpool
-Insaka FC
-Using sports as a vehicle for change
-How has the sport made improvements to racist behavior and policies? What has worked and what has not?
-When and where global and local inequalities in football have discernible connections to historical (and
contemporary) racialized power structures?
-How can institutions hold fans accountable for racist behavior?
-How have governing bodies of football participated in issues of race a
nd ethnicity in the past and how can they
be most effective in the future?
You can write about as many or as few of the topics / questions listed above. Here are are some sources that
