When writing my practice essay, I chose a topic that is important to me and that I have knowledge about from personal experience. I feel I made a good choice in what I chose to write about and feel I gave good examples throughout the essay. I like to write about personal experiences or things that I feel can get someones attention. I believe I wrote my essay in a way that could get someoneΒs attention and someone could offer feedback.
The writing task that I need to work on is focusing on a paragraph at a time and to stop rambling. I start my paragraphs pretty well, but then keep going and going instead of getting to the point quickly. I think once I start writing, so many ideas, memories, etc., come to mind and I can not pick and choose what to write, so I write it all down and I think that can push my readers away. I need to take the time on a subject and then brainstorm the best parts of the ideas and t
hen focus on writing on those.
After I went back through the grammar assessment, I was a little disappointed in my score. I know I rushed through and I made careless mistakes. The biggest mistakes, were the apostrophe errors, fragment and subject/verb. I was surprised to see so many of the same type of errors, but it just goes to show that I canΒt rush through any type of reading and/or writing.
Throughout the rest of this course and future courses, I plan to really spend the time required to read the chapters and write with thought. I will need to utilize the writing center and ask questions to the instructor and classmates. I want to be a good writer and to become a good writer IΒm going to have to review the grammar rules a few more times.
I would like to know how to begin an essay or thesis statement without it being a question? I want to grab someones attention, but how can I do that without asking a question?
